Russ Slater is a freelance writer and editor. He writes for The Quietus, Songlines and Brighton Noise, and is the editor of Sounds and Colours, an online magazine and print publication about South American music and culture. This last role highlights his ongoing obsession with music from South America, a condition that has led him to interview Kali Mutsa, Criolo, Susana Baca and other artists that most people have probably never heard of. He recently self-published a book about Colombian music and culture. It’s called simply ‘Colombia.’ In the past he has written for The Wire, Drowned In Sound, Time Out Sao Paulo, JungleDrums and Sandman magazine. His favourite artists change all the time but normally contain some combination of Bill Callahan, Why?, Eduardo Mateo, Joeyfat and Bilge Pump.
