Love Supreme Festival @ Glynde Place 3-5 July

11/04/2015 By James McLarnon

Love-Supreme-PosterThe Love Supreme Festival, just up the road from us at the magnificently picturesque Glynde House, five minutes outside Glynde train station, appears to – in only two years – have found an excellent niche in the heavily overpopulated national festival scene. It’s a jazz festival in name and feel but offers so much more than that, both musically and non-musically.

Dealing with the non-musical first, priced extremely reasonably considering the talent on show and the expiration of the early bird offer, it really couldn’t be easier to get to from Brighton with a shuttlebus to the site or a 15 to 20 minute train ride followed by a walk to the site. There’s the option to go upmarket and glamp, along with the quite frankly astonishing news to anyone that frequents the megafests that there are free showers on site!

There’s a great mix for festival goers. Undoubtedly family friendly, there are acts until late, and with the bars remaining open there’s no need for a desperate and unedifying booze grab at the end of the evening.

Musically, the festival prides itself on a balance of edgy and mainstream, a balance that they seem to get just right. Headlined this year by Chaka Khan and Van Morrison, on the Saturday and Sunday night respectively, there is also a night of programming on the Friday night, brought to you by the people behind the tiny Verdict jazz club/café on Edward Street.

Still not convinced? Then check out our run down of the best acts involved below.
